Are you a hospitality all-rounder? Are you keen to work in a kaupapa Māori arts organisation?

 

Te Pou Theatre is a kaupapa Māori-led performing arts venue which opened at Corban Estate Arts Centre, West Auckland in March last year.  We are a small, friendly and hard working team who are committed to ensuring audiences can attend a wide range of performing arts events, especially contemporary Māori theatre, dance and comedy.

 

What are we looking for?
We are looking for a new leader for our Front of House team, someone who: 

  • Is an all rounder with management experience in food and bar service, events and hospitality sales.   
  • Is passionate about ensuring our audiences are welcomed to our theatre, and experience great manaakitanga.  
  • Has excellent people management skills and team leadership experience. 
  • Has exceptional organisational and planning skills.
  • Is keen to bring their creative flair and grow our Front of House service. 

 

The role is permanent part-time with a guaranteed minimum of 20 hours per week and averaging 30 hours per week.  It requires being on the floor during events in evenings and weekends, with administration, preparation and reporting work during normal office hours.  

 

Mahi Details:

Front of House & Event Manager is responsible for ensuring the hospitality for each event is set up for food & beverage service and ticketing; for ensuring the smooth running of events on the night, and for reporting on all aspects of the event.  It includes planning with other departments to assist us to grow our hospitality offerings at Te Pou Theatre. 

 

The mahi will include, but is not limited to:

  • Event planning with customers: Liaising with external event producers to plan their Front of House needs for their event at Te Pou. 
  • Managing Front of House casual staff: Managing a small team of hospitality staff. Rostering and on-the-floor management of kitchen, bar and box office staff and ushers. On-boarding, training and managing staff development. 
  • Managing Food & Beverage service: Ensuring smooth bar and kitchen operations, ordering all kitchen and bar stock and supplies and managing inventory in regular stocktakes.
  • Duty Management of Front of House during events at Te Pou Theatre (including evenings and weekends) and fulfilling bar and service roles.   
  • Event management for internal events: Planning and leading events and activations in our Te Kōpua Foyer 
  • Menu development: Preparing, planning and updating food and bar menus.  
  • Front of House care: Set up and maintenance of the Te Pou Foyer and Front of house areas.
  • Compliance: Ensuring Te Pou Theatre meets all food and beverage service regulations. 
  • Reporting on events and activities for Te Pou leaders and producers
  • Analysing sales revenue and developing the hospitality strategy of Te Pou Theatre.
  • Ticketing: Supporting productions and customers with ticketing; building ticketing events, overseeing box office staff, managing ticketing needs.     

 

This is a new events venue and there is plenty of opportunity to make your mark in this role.   

 

About you. Ideally you will bring: 

  • Current LCQ and/or Bar Managers License.
  • Proven ability to lead and manage people, events and experiences. 
  • Own car and ability to drive to collect stock is required
  • Organisational and administrative skills and experience working on word, google suite and ideally experience with PosBoss/Bustle and Xero. 
  • Competency with reo Māori and an understanding of tikanga Māori.
  • Excellent customer service skills, confidence talking with our wider whānau and clients on the phone, email and in person.
  • Experience in the live arts sector
  • Initiative, self motivation, and enthusiasm for great service and manaakitanga
