TE HANGA | OUR NEW BUILD
We are located at Corban Estate Arts Centre, a heritage site with artists studios and galleries situated in park like grounds.
In 2020 in partnership with Corban Estate Arts Centre we have embarked on a build to create a performing arts centre with two auditoriums, offices, hui rooms and facilities to service audiences and performing artists.
We opened briefly in 2021 and welcomed 3200 people through the doors over 6 short events and now we've closed again to continue our three-stage build.
Completed in 2020 we constructed a 750 square metre black box theatre auditorium. Designed for 250 seats this flexi form space has had insulation and acoustically-sound walls installed, air conditioning and a lighting rig.
Currently we are installing a 145 m2 rehearsal / performance studio, offices, hui rooms, box office and public amenities and we are creating a light filled, insulated foyer. Stage 2 is due to be completed by April 2022.
We are working towards undertaking Stage 3 at the same time. Funding dependent this part of the build adds much needed acoustic buffering, and design elements in the foyer and performance studios, builds all backstage facilities (tech storage rooms, dressing rooms) and adds additional drainage and power. If we achieve all funding needed this will mean we reopen in August 2022 as a fully completed performing arts venue with multiple performance spaces and hui rooms.
