A FREE 6-week course of acting workshops for Māori performers  


TE POU AWE : Acting Workshops with Tainui Tukiwaho is a series of wānanga and weekly workshops that will focus on acting technique and script analysis through discussion, scene work in pairs, exercises and play. We are excited to deliver this class bilingually, switching between both Te Reo Māori and English.


We have a 12 spaces available in this course that will bring together Māori performing artists who are committed to learning new skills and developing their craft.


We begin with a full one day wānanga Sat 1 May 10am-6pm
Classes are held every Pōpare (Thursday evenings), 6pm - 9pm, 6 May - 27 May.

Who is it for: 
Workshops are for emerging and established Māori performers committed to developing in the performing arts. You been acting for a while and want to continue learning, keep warm and hone your craft. You may have not acted much before but have performed in other areas like kapa haka, dance or have done small roles before and want to learn more. You will need to commit to the five workshops and be able to do preparation work at home during the week.

Who is the kaiako:

Tainui Tukiwaho (Te Arawa/Tūhoe)

Tainui has worked nationally and internationally as an actor, director, producer and writer since graduating from Unitec in 2001. Tainui's recent theatre directing includes BLACK TIES (2019 -2020), Astroman (Auckland Arts Festival, 2019), Cradle Song (Q Theatre, 2019).  As well as creating his own innovative screen and theatre works, Tainui is continually cast by our major television & film making companies and has featured in local productions like The Gulf, Step Dave, The Almighty Johnsons, Shortland Street and played Billy T James in the television-feature BILLY.   Tainui is also fluent in Te Reo Maori and has worked with many of NZ's Maori Language Production companies.
