Te Pou are excited to announce the addition of Waiata Sessions to our 2023 Whakapuawai Programme! These sessions are an opportunity to come together, whakawhanaungatanga and sing a few waiata.
Waiata sessions will be light, fun, active and will hopefully leave you feeling a bit more confident with waiata māori! Guiding participants through our waiata sessions is the manu tioriori Aleesha Tia Taua. Read more about her below:

Kia Ora e te whānau! My name is Aleesha Tia Taua and I will be running your waiata session as a part of the Whakapuāwai Programme with Te Pou.
I am currently working for my people with Te Kawerau Iwi Tiaki Trust as the Kaimahi Maatauranga but have always had a passion for performing arts and waiata. Everything from Kapa Haka to theatre to gigging, I love it all. I’m looking forward to contributing to a creative environment that promotes whakawhanaungatanga and waiata māori.

Our whare is accessible to wheelchairs and walkers.

Please note, your walker will need to be stored away during the performance so that it’s not a trip hazard to other patrons. An usher will return your walker to you whenever you need it.
