Foundations Theatre Workshop

A Te Pou Theatre and Massive Theatre Company collaboration as part of the Whakapuāwai Programme.

This is a free two day workshop offering theatre training for young people aged 15 – 25 years. You will learn a wide range of theatre foundation skills and techniques as well as explore different ways of making theatre pieces using your own ideas and stories. The Foundations Theatre workshop is suitable for all levels of experience, participants will be led by two professional teaching artists from the Massive teaching team.

Meet The Massive Teaching Team

Tane Te Pakeke-Patterson (Kai Tahu, Kati Hateatea) is a performer and maker from Ōtautahi. After graduating from Unitec’s Performing and Screen Arts Degree in 2022, he trained with Massive as an actor, director and teaching artist. He performed in Heart Go… BOOM! (2023) and was assistant director for Te Ao Hou (2024). Tane is passionate about work that aligns with the whakataukī ‘kia kawea tātou e te rēhia!’ meaning ‘let us be taken by joy and entertainment!’

Manunui Rainey is an actor hailing from a little town called Tūrangi. He graduated from Unitec in 2023 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Performing and Screen Arts. Manu joined Massive at the start of 2023 through a Foundations workshop, and has been a member of Massive Nui Ensemble ever since. He is currently performing in Massive’s new emerging artist production HOME MADE, and was in the 2024 production Te Ao Hou.
