Te Pou Theatre Challenge

April 2022

What's The Wero?

The Te Pou Theatre challenge is our first annual fundraiser to support us in creating a thriving home for Māori Theatre- Buzzing with kōrero, waiata, dance, theatre, comedy. We want our theatre bursting with Māori creatives telling Māori stories. Your mahi will fill our whare with free courses for Māori actors, writers, designers to learn and grow.

With your help we can support more of our creatives across Tāmaki Makaurau and Aoteroa onto new Pathways For Performing Arts In Te Ao Māori.

-Find Your Wero

Lastly, for the picky ones, you can choose your own wero! If none of the above tickle your fancy, show us what you can do. It could be anything from a cooking show to a cross country bike ride! Get creative.

Why get involved?

All arts organisations and artists need support. We’re no different.

Māori creatives need a place where they can grow their skills in presenting Māori theatre, grow their reo, know that the whare they are showing their work in is the right place for their work. All New Zealanders need access to work drawing on te ao Māori, reflecting the unique cultural heritage of this land.
There is a significant shortage of skilled Māori creatives (writers, designers, performers). There is significantly less Māori performing arts created for all to see. This fundraising campaign addresses that imbalance by supporting the growth of Te Pou (the venue and the activities).
